CADETS (13-17 years) *edit slight change to trial times again*
Due to being unable to secure QNA courts for Monday 28th Feb - we have had to change the Cadet grading sessions to the following:
Saturday 5th March - 10:00-11:30am
Monday 7th March - 5:00-6:30pm
These sessions will allow the club to place players in the applicable grade - as Cadets are graded into 4 divisions in the QNA comp with girls from mixed ages within each team.
We require players to attend both session if possible, so that our selectors can get a good feel for player abilities, and to ensure that players are placed in the correct division.
Please contact Laura if you can not attend one or both of these sessions - on email laura.gow@ga.gov.au .
NEW JUNIOR PROGRAM FOR 2011
QNA have supplied us with some preliminary info for the upcoming season for 5-10 year olds. Letter from the Junior Chairperson follows. We will post more info as it comes to hand from QNA.
Net-set-go Program at Queanbeyan Netball Association for 2011
Background
In 2008, Netball NSW launched Netball Australia’s Junior Netball Program, San Remo NetSetGO!
NetSetGO! has been developed to provide children from the ages of 5 to 10 years with a learning and playing experience that enables them to develop a positive introduction to Netball, ensuring enjoyment and continued participation within the sport.
The program has been designed to complement the existing netball infrastructure by providing community groups such as Associations, Clubs and schools with quality resources and equipment to deliver an age and skill appropriate netball program. Although the association has become an accredited centre, each club is able to become an accredited centre and receive the resources from Netball NSW. More information can be found on the Netball Australia website.
The Queanbeyan Association has adopted the program for all age groups up to under 10’s, and this was voted on at the last council meeting.
Program in a nutshell
After speaking to the QNA Coaching coordinator, regarding how Netball NSW runs the NetSetGO! program, we envisage the program will run as follows:
The Fun Net program is for 5-7 years (ie those children, boys or girls who turn 7 or under in 2011). The 10 week program will be run along the same lines as last year. The children will learn skills in a game environment, ie simon says, the fruit game etc. The QNA Coaching coordinator has developed a 10 week program which will be administered by her with the help of a nominated delegate from each club and players from the QNA rep teams.
The Netta program for under 8’s- under 10’s (ie those players (boys or girls) turning 8, 9, or 10 in 2011) will run along the same lines as the under 8’s did in 2010. They will still play in their division, ie as under 8’s, or under 9’s or under 10’s. Each team will still require a coach and each club will need to nominate a delegate to assist with erecting the lower goal rings. They will still play games in a 14 round competition over the season but there will not be finals. They will play modified rules. Players will be required to be rotated every quarter and through all areas of the court. This is so that all players can develop a range of skills rather than just defence or attack.
The QNA Coaching Coordinator will be giving an information session to all coaches before the season starts to talk about the progression of skills and how the program will be administered. Dates for this will be released shortly. The QNA coaching coordinator is also available during the season to help all coaches with developing programs for their individual teams.
